Dato’ Dr. Marina began her education at St. Teresa’s Convent in Kuala Lumpur before completing her secondary studies at Clifford Secondary School, Kuala Lipis. She later pursued higher education in India, where she studied at Mount Carmel College, Sri Mahaveera College, and eventually graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal.
Her professional journey started with humanitarian service as a Dental Surgeon at the Vietnamese Refugee Camp (UNHCR) in Kuala Lumpur. She went on to serve as a Dental Officer at Hospital Daerah Muar, Johor, before founding Klinik Pergigian A Marina in Penang in 1986. Over the years, she expanded her practice, established the first dental consortium in Penang, and continues to lead with dedication as Principal Dentist while also lecturing at Penang International Dental College.
Beyond dentistry, Dato’ Dr. Marina has been a strong advocate for women’s empowerment and community development. She has served multiple terms as President of YWCA Penang and National President of YWCA Malaysia, spearheading projects in education, childcare, and women’s rights. Her involvement extends to various NGOs, including the Penang Women’s Development Corporation, Soroptimist International, and Prison Ministry, where she continues to touch lives through service and leadership.
Her professional memberships and recognitions reflect her outstanding contributions. She is a Life Member of the Malaysian Dental Association, a Fellow of the International College of Dentists, and an active member of several professional bodies. Her dedication has been honoured with state awards including the Pingat Jasa Kebaktian (PJK), Darjah Johan Negeri (DJN), and Darjah Setia Pangkuan Negeri (DSPN), which conferred upon her the title Dato’.
Yet, beyond her professional and community achievements, Dato’ Dr. Marina treasures her role as a wife and mother. Married to a doctor, she is the proud mother of four accomplished sons — two medical doctors, one dentist, and one pilot. Her family is a testimony to the love, strength, and balance she has nurtured alongside a life of service.
